Unable to boot after aswRvrt.sys

I have problem similar to http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=123095.0

I have - windows xp,
pentium 4
2 RAMS - one of 512 MB and other of 128 MB
2 harddisks - both of 160 GB

  • One morning when I switched my machine on, it didn’t booted correctly, it went into a reboot loop. I tried to run in safe mode, it didn’t worked either. It tried all possible modes i.e safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt etc etc. When running in safe mode, booting halts at aswRvrt.sys
  • I have avast installed. I also want to notify you that my CD ROM doesnt work. So, i need to always make my pendrive bootbale.
  • I read many forums related to this, but, none solved my problem, I made OTLPENET bootable on usb and tested it on both win xp and win 7. However, it worked perfectly on win 7 but it booted and later on halted in win xp.

Urgent help needed, thanks in advance :stuck_out_tongue:

When you use the bootable OTLPE USB on the XP system it fails to load. Is that correct ?

Yes, initially it starts booting but later on it halts leaving a black screen with the phrase “Starting Raetogo”. This happens on win xp but when I tested the it on win 7 on the same laptop I made the usb bootable, it works!

How many RAM sticks are in the computer ? If there are two then remove one and try to boot. If that fails then replace that stick and remove the other one and try again

I tried and ended up with a fully functional computer. ;D

But, I wanted to know can the same trouble revive again ?
and what if it revives ? What should I do then ?

Thanks a lot for the help!

One of your memory sticks is either on the point of failing, or if it is a laptop it may have come a tad loose. Is it working now with all the memory sticks in ?

Well, it worked for a few times and then again same problem occured causing me to follow the same procedure of removing and reattaching both the ram sticks. Firstly I removed one ram stick, and then again pluged it in and the problem again gpt “partially” solved.

can it be a virus problem ? or anythng similar to that ?

No this is a hardware problem, either the RAM is loose or it is failing

Thanks for your help, I hope replacing the rams will fix the torchring issue permanently. 8)

Let me know how you get on
