Unable to create custom scan with latest install

A couple of weeks back I re installed W7 over the same version [Home premium] to fix some W7 system issues, and then I had to re-install Avast, ever since I have not been able to create/schedule a custom scan, only able to do a “smart scan” , drop down ‘scan’ option only lists 'boot-time scan", also Avast is not keeping any history of past recent [Smart]scans, etc…in short is not working like it used to. Did this latest version’s features change for the latest “Free” released version? or any ideas what is going on?

IN the past couple of days I’m having issues with sluggish/freezing “boot ups” and even though “smart scan” reports ‘all clear’ I’m not 100% sure if Avast is working properly, as I’m begining to think my system may be infected…

controlpanel > ad/remove programs > avast > uninstall/change > repair option … wait a minute and reboot

any change ?

It should look something like this:

Just did a repair/reboot as indicated above, but no changes, my Avast [Free antivirus 2015]screen looks exactly like the image posted, I’ve been using Avast for many years and was able to create Custom Scans etc, I just try creating one, but only the default “Boot Time scan” shows up under the drop down window next to ‘Start’ as before the repair, my only option is to do the “Smart scan” under the scan Menu. Hovering over the Avast Icon on taskbar reports “You are Protected” so I’m not sure why is not working like it used to, by the way under “Scan” the list of available scans just shows questions [?]marks, don’t recall if this is normal…

and then I had to re-install Avast,
how did you reinstall? did you remove the old with avast removal tool? https://www.avast.com/en-eu/uninstall-utility

after re-install I thought every thing would stay the same with Avast, but it stop loading and didn’t show up in task bar, rebooting didn’t work, Win reported missing AV, so I used the regular uninstall W7 feature, and downloaded/installed this version, no, I didn’t use any uninstall/remove tools…should I re-do it now?

should I re-do it now?
try that and report back

Thanks Pondus, That worked! Will do full scan later, but a quick scan found no viruses, but still something is not right , looks like a hardware issue that will need a major operation…
