unable to create rescue disk

I have been unable to create a rescue disk using the built in option in Avast Premier. My first attempt was shortly after I purchased my premier license about a month ago. I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 8.1 Pro just four days ago. I am still unable to create a rescue disk. In all cases it fails with the nebulous error “Failed to create the Rescue Disk” at the “Updating definitions…” step.

I had read in a previous post that there is a log file I might provide with further information. Unfortunately, I am unable to find this post again. I would gladly provide the log if I could be informed where to find it.

Any help would be appreciated in solving this problem.

11 days later… bump.

Does this help http://www.avast.com/en-eu/faq.php?article=AVKB114#artTitle

Diagnostic logs if that is what you want?
Are found in sticky guide at top in viruses and worms forum section … Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Let me start by thanking you for taking the time to try and help me. Unfortunately, the links you provided do not help with my current issue.

The instructions for creating a rescue disk exactly match the steps I have already taken and result in the same error message. In the case of http://www.avast.com/en-eu/faq.php?article=AVKB114#artTitle the error message appears as part of step #5.

The the other post you referenced is this one correct? I did not read it fully but my understanding is that the logs described there are the output of various scanning utilities designed to aid in the identification of malware on an installed system.

Unfortunately, this is not the kind of log file I was asking about. It is my understanding that Avast! creates a log file of the rescue disk creation process and stores it somewhere. I have already checked C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\AVAST Software\Avast\log and C:\Users<username>\Documents\AvastPEToolkit. I would still be glad to provide it if any one can point out where to find it. I imagine it would go a long way to illuminating the nature of my problem.

Thats the one ..... and Farbar Recovery Scan Tool is a diagnostic tool that will reveal lots of issues not only created by malware ;)

Here is one very sceptic user, but when he finaly did run FRST it solved his case  and there are many more

Have not tried to create a rescuedisk yet ...... maybe somone else can help you with this

Thank you again for the quick response and I apologize for my own tardy reply.

It took me some time to run the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool as Avast! was blocking it from running. More accurately Avast! was causing FRST64.exe to crash on launch. Once I discovered this I was able to run FRST64.exe after disabling the Avast! Shields. The resulting logs are attached.

Before we continue I feel the need to make something clear: I am a computer repair technician and have been so in professional capacity for fifteen years. I understand that this does not make me infallible. I also understand that the default assumption made about any one asking for help on a forum is that they are just knowledgeable enough to check their email and browse the web but not knowledgeable enough to do so safely or to understand how the content they are viewing is getting to their computer. I want you to understand that I am not such an individual.

have PMd some log experts, it may take some time before anyone is online

Do you get a specific error when you try to create the disc ? And is it a CD or USB…

I will try to create one myself later on today and follow the process

Wonder if this may help:
