Unable to delete Avast Win XP

I downloaded Avast Free to scan some files I downloaded on an old computer and no longer need it. I tried to remove it but it’s not visible on the Program List and doesn’t show on my RevoUninstaller list. I can’t use the Avast Uninstaller either (“Not a valid Win32 application”).

I can’t kill the processes Avast runs nor can I remove the program files which has somehow ballooned to almost 1 GB on my hard drive. I tried using FileAssassin, Revo permanent file deleter, and a command line to remove Avast and that also failed. I really don’t want this on my computer anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't use the Avast Uninstaller either
Did you run it from safemode as instructed?

Using the Uninstall Utility for Avast Antivirus

also note the part in instructions below the orange download button … see/click attached screenshot

You don’t say what version/build of avast that you have ?

The last one for XP is 18.8.xxxx and that requires a copy of avastclear.exe that supports XP.

I did this time around. It still wouldn’t work.

No matter, I was able to manually delete all the Avast files from my hard drive in safe mode. Thank you for the advice.

For XP you need this: https://install.avcdn.net/iavs9x-xp/avastclear.exe
