Unable to establish an ADNM Console connection from a workstation

I’ve installed a trial version, and am unable to establish an adnm console connection from my workstation.

I can login from the console installed on the server itself.
Also, after reading here I’ve reviewed the exceptions in windows firewall and they are checked.

Please help, After running trend micro I like the avast performance but can’t go to the server room everytime I need to make changes.

what is the error that you get? cant do much if you dont tell (you of all people should know that, bein an system administrator and all)

ps: never heard of remote desktop?

Sorry I forgot to provide the error message:
“Unable to login as Administrator or connection error”
I only get this error when trying to connect from a workstation running the adnm console.

Again, I can login perfectly from the console installed on the Avast server,
using the default Administrator id and password. Also, I’ve reviewed the firewall settings on workstation and server, the exceptions appear to be checked correctly.

u mentioned that you didnt want to walk to the serverroom. I (as lazy sys admin) really understand you
but why do you not use remote desktop? (mstsc.exe on every xp and higher client or server 2003 and higher server)
saves you the walk to the serverroom and you can do the same as when you would walk to the console…

is there a possibility to turn of the firewalls for a few minutes at all to test if the firewall isnt blocking for real, meaning you might have missed a port afteral
you can select the database server at the remote client to connect to? this is detected automaticly ?
your client doesnt have DNS problems?

Yes, I’m familiar with remote desktop and have deployed several installs of terminal services.

I don’t mind the walk to the server room and definitely need the exercise. ::slight_smile: ::slight_smile:
However, I was simply trying to test the avast product as it was advertised in the user manual.

By the way I have tried disabling the firewall, to no avail.
Also, I can detect the server from the workstation console, it just won’t allow me to login.

Could this be an issue with the “evaluation” version? Just asking… ;D

thanks much

no, shouldnt be a problem with the eval

what if you use a network monitor to see what kind of packages are send between the server and the workstation for differences
