i read a few of the threads concerning the problem not be able to login, but they
did not resolve my one.
we have a win2k-system with the adnm installed and everything worked for a long
time now.
since today we are not able to login into the adnm. i get the message “unable to login
as Administrator … time out-error”
so we reinstalled the adnm and still could not logon as administrator.
i checked the connection via the ams maintenance tools and checked the ssl certificate,
and the license also, the service is running too => everything is fine.
And so do I, on two separate installations of the adnm console, it was today hung, and after restarting the console, I couldn’t log back in. Restarting the services won’t work, since it’s hung. Only way to fix this is to reboot the computer. This sux since you have to do this about 2 times a week because of the application has hung.
I’m now just hoping there are someone from the Avast team that reads this forum… So far it doesn’t seem like it, since I’ve asked quite a few questions, with no answer at all… So I’m not holding my breath, but hoping that next version of the program will come out soon, and that the problems will be fixed then!
Nope… what is this, some UN-official supportforum?
It’s better to have a problem fixed via support in a forum where it can help lots of people, than a single mail which only helps one single user.
But, on the other hand, what good is a supportforum if the people supposed to give support isn’t part of the community. So you may be right, maybe I should write a personal mail instead… stupid me.
So, what ur saying is that only users read and post here, no members from the Avast development team?
Anyways, posted a ticket in the support section on the main page, and are awaiting an answer.
A big heads up to all using adnm though. The service “avast! Management Service” hangs from time to time, making it impossible to logon to the console. Only way to fix it is to reboot the server, and this is a big deal if the server is used for something else than maintaining the antivirus. Furthermore, and more crucial, is that during this hang, no clients are updated with new signatures!
In my case the service shows it’s up, but it’s hung. When trying to restart it, it sais “Stopping” forever. Must reboot to get it running again.
Also, I’ve checked the event viewer, but there’s no info to find there…sadly…
Good news is that the staff is now looking into the problem, and I hope I get this problem solved really soon!
i have the same problem with unable to login. If somebody already has a solution.By a complete new installation it goes once. Then it does not go any more. I would be very grateful for a help. Restart the computer will not help.
Are there any mistake in logs? Not only in Event Viewer, but in Avast logs - log files at \data\log directory and setup.log (in setup dir)
ADNM version is latest, isn’t it? (4.8.934 - see actualisation in Add/remove programs menu)
More info about your system needed.
I upgraded ADNM console this week on W2003 SP2 without such problem. The same on my WinXP SP3 some minutes ago. Sometimes I had troubles with my keyboard via remote desktop (with capital letters) on my notebook. It was switched to capitals without signaling. Try to write password in notepad, copy to clipboard and paste into login dialog. So you can be sure, that password is written correctly. I know, it seems to be stupid advice, but sometimes, you never know…
I’ve been having the same problem guys. However, I’d like to suggest a few things if I can.
For the OP, he says:
so we reinstalled the adnm and still could not logon as administrator.
I’ve read some other posts where they reinstalled the ADNM, and they couldn’t log in again. It was because when they originally installed the ADNM, and the MSDE database, they let the installer program pick the password. When they re-install, the password doesn’t match the old password, and obviously it doesn’t work.
As for the service stuck in “Stopping”, I have that problem too, and if you don’t want to reboot the server to get it running again, you can use a program like process explorer to kill the avast management server, then start it again without a reboot.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I’ve already tried that (pasting the password). I have a post in this forum and I do have my errors pasted into it, but it doesn’t look like anything special.
Sorry I couldn’t help anyone else out with their problems by giving a real answer, but at least you all know that you’re not alone!
I had to do a complete uninstall of the program and database and a reinstall. It worked fine after that. I didn’t want to do a restore of the backup after my reinstall because it may have screwed it up again, so I just redid everything from scratch. I hope that there is a better answer soon, but I haven’t come across any.
