I’ve spent the past 6 hours attempting to install Avast! ona clean-install XP machine.
However I try, the download of the installer fails.
I’ve tried the CNET download (which works, but the main setupeng d/l then fails about 3/4 blocks along the way)
I’ve tried direct download, on three different machines (one XP clean, one XP with AVG on, one Vista with Avast! on) all fail fairly early on in the process.
I’ve tried using GetRight to manage the download - and it seems that a small block about 2-4MB into the download isn’t available on the server (or at least Getright reports ‘Awaiting response from server’ for that block of 8KB)
anyone have any ideas what’s wrong? - is there a malformed upload on there?
Unfortunately, that file also stalls (at around 2.25MB) in IE :-\
However, I’ve managed (I think) to get around it by using an old installer (from April) for the initial install, and it’s currently updating (16MB of 31 downloaded so far :))
My suspicion is a corrupt upload - which has been mirrored to filehippo
Someone at Avast needs to check for this, as the only thing I can think of otherwise is that it’s something in my ISP blocking that segment - which would be a little ridiculous!
I’d agree - but EVERYTHING else runs fine!
I can do torrents, downloads from AV sites, WU’s, and just about any other sort of download imaginable - but not the Avast! one!
