well i did tell you im new at this, so where can i get some help!!

Welcome to the forum deborah297. You can get some help right here.

Please post the full path and file name (eg c:\windows\filename.ext) and what trojan was identified.

Also let us know what operating system you have.

Try boot scan:
Open the Simple User Interface (e.g. by right clicking on the avast! blue tray icon and selecting “Start avast! Antivirus”), open its menu (e.g. by right clicking on the window) and choose “Schedule Boot-Time scan…”.
Then restart Windows move to Chest when warning comes up

“c:\windows\system21\fmiftup.dll”

Did you try Boot Scan?

Are you sure about system21?

Well, follow Joeloucyn’s suggestion about a boot scan and post the results. Also, still need your operating system.

EDIT: Oh, and the name of the trojan?

With the location you gave probably c:\windows\system32\fmiftup.dll if this is correct it would indicate your operating system is likely to be windows XP and probably the Home version.

Windows in its infinite wisdom protects files in use (even malware) or in system folders, so it is likely that avast! can’t delete or move files in use. So schedule boot-time scan in avast’s menu (see image, your avast skin will be different) if you have XP, win2k or NT, otherwise boot into safe mode and run an avast scan. This should ensure that the file isn’t in use and avast should be able to deal with it.
