Unable to scan certain files

When I run a full scan with Avast Home the results show it was unable to scan 78 files. 77 of which are Laversoft files which I assume are protected the other file is C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.…\MPSigStub.exe is there a reason why Avast is not being able to scan these files or is this result correct.?

Lavasoft Ad-Aware is encrypting and/or password protecting those files, David is explaning the reason in this post:

Thanks for your reply Bluesman. I take it that MPSigStub.exe has also protected files which is why Avast is unable to scan.

I don’t know what MPSigStub.exe is, but maybe you can try to test it in VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner or Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if the files isn’t to big.

On this sites you can try suspected files in many antivirusprg.

Links to the sites are in this post by David:

It would appear to be part of the Windows Defender and that because of the nature of the program be protected. No harm in checking VirusTotal, etc. but I think you may have the same permission problem when trying to upload a copy of it.

Maybe coping the file to your desktop and sending it from there (or even zip it before). ??? ::slight_smile:

If windows defender is protecting it even that may fail if it won’t even let avast scan it, but it certainly can’t hurt to try.
