I did a scan with the free edition of avast 4 and found that although i dont have any virus it was unable to scan certain files i am unsure of what to do with these as i have tried to move to the chest and it wont let me all it does is say there has been a error.
Many programs (usually security based ones) password protect their files for legitimate reasons such as AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy, there are others (and avast doesn’t know the password or have any way of using it even if it did know it).
When you run scans with the above programs and you delete harmful entries that they detect, a copy is kept (in quarantine/restore/backup) in case you need to reverse what you did. These are usually password protected, you should do some housekeeping and delete old backup/recovery/quarantine entries (older than two weeks or so), this will reduce the numbers of files that can’t be scanned.
By examining 1) the reason given by avast! for not being able to scan the files, 2) the location of the files, you can get an idea of what program they relate to.
Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.
The files that it wont scan are in c\windows\applicationdata.…\sbrecovery.ini.
The others seem to be in c\windows\profiles\ with my name here and recovery.
Some of the others are c:.…\qor1v-bgdqaaaongznonxl-uxboken7f1-0===gbt2
The first appear to belong to Spybot Search & Destroy.
However, the locations are meaningless unless acompanied with the reason they can’t be scanned. Even the locations are compacted .…, etc. so we/can’t see the program that is likely to be associated with the file.
I will repeat what I said before.
Files that can't be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.
