Unable to send email when Mail Shield is disabled

Whenever I disable Avast Mail Shield (either unchecking “Scan outbound messages” or pressing the Stop button to stop email scanning entirely) and I try to send an email in Windows Live Mail, it will say “Connecting…” at the bottom of the screen for a couple of minutes, but then I get the error message, “The connection to the server has failed, Subject: Portfolios for 2013, Server: smtp.comcast.net, Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E, Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060.” I don’t get this “connection to the server has failed” error when I only uncheck the “Scan inbound messaged” box, just when I uncheck “Scan outbound messages.”

However, when I turn Mail Shield back on and try to send a message, I get this error: “An unknown error has occurred, Subject: Portfolios for 2013, Server Error: 554, Server reponse: 554 Suspicious message, Server: smtp.comcast.net, Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC6F, Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No.”

I tried to send a message with the subject “Portfolios for 2013” with an attachment a few days ago, and now I get these errors. I can’t rename the attachment or even see that email I tried to send anymore. It seems to be stuck in the pipeline.

I’m using Windows 7 Home Edition, Windows Live Mail Version 2009, Avast Free version 7.0.1456.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forums cloudeleven,

Have you had this error before or did this happen after a recent update to avast! or Windows Live Mail?

Also, there’s a more recent version of the Windows Live Essentials Suite (version 2013). Updating to the most recent version might help sort out the issue as the latest version contains numerous fixes to bugs and errors.
