unable to send error report

I was online reading e-mail when windows message alert came up and said something about saving material windows would shut down in 35 sec and it listed something about an error in ISASS.exe. windows then shut down and I logged back on and tried to run a virus scan.
avast. encounters problems box came up and asked me to send a report of my activity, oh it also stated an internal error had occurred in program.
when I try to send error report i get the “cannot find file specified box” that states something about correctly filling out SMTP. " Do I need to put in a user name and password in th eprogram settings for SMTP?
and I did click on avast icon again and am currently running a scan.
was this just a problem form windows slamming shut like that or could it be something more sinister?

You might want to read this:

If it starts with a L it’s a windows file. If it starts with a i it’s a worm. You might try to download and run Ewido:

thank-you that was informative.
I did a search and luckily no bad files, still not sure what caused crash in 1st place.
I did what you suggested and quarantined suspected files.
thank-you for the help
