Unable to update Avast Home

Hi,
I am unable to update my Avast Home version [Build July2008(4.8.1229), Xtreme Toolkit Version 1.9.4.0, ActiveSkin Version 4.2.7.3], by manually downloading the update and installing it.
The automatic installation is not working either.

The current version shows : VPS file version 080923-0.
And the version available for download is 081215-1.

While installing, it gives me error messages like -

Can’t install VPS update. Please report the following errorcodes:
Ver 4.8.1229
SI: 0x00000002
ST: 0xFFFFFFFF
LE: 0x00000000

I tried downloading the Avast Home version again but even that gives me an error while the version still installed in my computer works properly (except the updates).
I am using Windows XP SP2 and have Ad-Aware installed. No other AV program.
Any help is welcome.
Thanks.

what did you manually try to update? the virus database or the program itself?

you could try to download the actual program installer (4.8.1296) and ‘update’ it via installing starting the new installation file (you don’t need to remove the actually installed version)

try again to perform an update after you upgradet to 4.8.1296.
(don’t forget to restart you computer first)

does anything change?

Hi,
First, I tried to update the virus database and not the program.
And yes, I tried to install the version that is available right now (did not uninstall the last version) but that gave me an error as well.
That gives me an error message : An error 3 (00000003) has occured. Last operation performed was : spawning
I will try uninstalling the Avast loaded now and install it from the scratch, with the latest version available. And then try to update it.
Hope it would work.

thats a good idea - please post the results!

Hi,
I have been busy and didnt get any time to play with avast.
finally today, i used the avast cleaner, uninstalled the older version, installed the the home edition from the website and then the update, everything worked smoothly.
Now, even the auto-update feature prompts a access-control from zonealarm…
cheerio.

nice to hear

feel free to come back if you have any more problems or questions!
