Unable to update

I’m brand new to avast.

When I go to updating, iAVS update, always receive “connection terminated, retrying” message while downloading packages. What should I do ?

Are you behind a router of any sort? Is there anything you know of that could be interfering with avast?

Make sure it is not the firewall who is preventing the updates.
Also check the connection settings, make sure there is no proxy and/or dns server set.

Is your system free from malware?

I might as well ask this… what ports does avast use? Is it tcp or udp? If he does need to open ports he will need know know.

Since he can connect, the correct port is open.

I’m not so tech savvy, so I may not understand some of your postings.

My connection is ok, don’t think there’s proxy ie. direct connection. Btw, I’m using firefox.

Not even sure abt firewall; how do I check what firewall I have and whether it is causing problem. Pardon my ignorance.

Managed to get the problem resolved.
Went to program setting, and changed the settings on connection. Now updating is ok.

Always nice to hear a problem is solved.

Hi, i am facing the same problem here, ie. unable to update the database… but i am not sure where to update the connection setting… any advise? thanks!

Right click the ‘a’ blue icon.
Choose Program properties

Update (Basic) and details
and
Update (Advanced)

have all settings you need

:-\

seems like it is not working after trying out all the possible options. Are there any other reasons why i cannot update?

Basically, check:

  1. If your subscription allows the update right now (i.e., if it is not expired).

  2. Check you firewall settings and allow avast.setup to connect.
If you’re not sure, just turn off your firewall (to be sure the update failure is not due to it)

  3. Check your proxy settings into avast!:
Left click the avast icon > Settings
Update (Basic) > Details > Proxy

Make sure your browser is not set to “Work Offline” (this option is generally in the File menu). If it doesn’t help, try switching the proxy settings from “Auto-detect” to “No proxy” (I’m assuming you’re not connecting to the Internet via proxy).

hi pacific, thanks for the help…
finally it is solved… it is the internet proxy problem…
