Hello all. When I booted up this morning I was greeted by a small window that states something along these lines:
“Avast has detected an unauthorized change to the following file: C:\something someting\ashwebserv.exe It may not be safe to continue. Do you want to continue? Yes No” I clicked no and came straight here.
I can go back and get the exact file address if necessary, but it will mean rebooting again. The gist of it is that the ashwebserv.exe file is changed without authorization. How should I proceed? Should I scan with Avavst, or go do an online scan at Symantec or PC Cillin or Panda? Is anyone else having these problems?
You may try to invoke program repair from Control Panel / Add/Remove Program / avast! Antivirus.
The symptom is strange, however - seems like the file was modified; it could happen during a file-infecting virus infection, for example (but in that case, other files would likely get modified as well, not just ashWebSv). Well, there can be other reasons… but an online scan wouldn’t hurt.
Thank you for your response. I ran a Panda online scan and it was clean. I will try the repair function. Thank you for the reminder. My Avast, ZoneAlarm, Windows and all other programs are up-to-date as of today. I just don’t modify my Sig line anymore with each new update. ;D
