I’m trying to uninstall Avast Free. I didn’t want to install it. It was installed behind another app I believe. I tried to uninstall from the control panel and it gets stuck. I tried AvastClear and it boots into safe mode and gets stuck too, in the same place (see screenshot).
Version: Avast 17.3.2291 b17.3.3443.0
Windows 7, SP1
Sophos Endpoint security is installed
I didn’t intentionally install Avast. It was installed alongside something else. Now I can’t get rid of it. I’m fairly computer savvy. I’d rather remove the correct, neat way, rather than start hacking it out of the OS, but if I have to, I assume that Avast has some procedure for manually uninstalling their software.

No, they haven't. :(
If everything is working as it should, you could uninstall through control panel and after that run avastclear.
But that does leave things from avast behind.
Unfortunately the only way is as I said.
I can’t uninstall Sophos. It is controlled by Group Policy at the domain level. I didn’t want Avast install at all. It installed somewhat covertly. It may have been a check box that I missed during the installation of something else, but either, way it needs to go.
That is a tool from RejZoR (used to be a active member on this webboard) and it only support up to avast 2014.
Unless there is a tool that I don’t know of, the only way to remove avast completely is by hand.
OK, I finally got rid of Avast. I ran the uninstall routine while the Task Manager was running next to it. That showed that another avast app opened up during the routine when it locked up. I killed that app and it started the rest of the uninstall routine. That was enough to get rid of Avast. I then re-ran AvastClear in SafeMode and that finished it off. Thank you all for your time and offers of help and suggestions.
