I am running Avast 4.7 Home edition since July 07 and I need to uninstall IE7 to enable an old programme (MS Picture It 2000) to install correctly. In the process of uninstalling through the install/remove option on the control panel i get a message box that states “since the installation of IE 7 a number of programmes have either been installed or have been upgraded through IE7, the removal of IE7 may affect their performance” My question is would it cause a malfunction with my Avast 4.7, and if so what the remedy be?
Shortly, not.
avast does not use IE or needs it to update/upgrade.

Sorry Tech but uninstalling IE7 in essence is a rollback.
It’s restoring the system to just before IE7 was installed.
Once done, you’ll need to update avast! and most likely
re-install the other programs the un-install program is alerting you about.
At this point, you’ll need to decide if the game is worth all that work. 
Serious? How does IE affect avast?
Any updates since IE7 was installed will be un-done and will have to be re-installed manually.
Oh… only this… an update and everything will be fine, not that much to worry.
