Uninstall or disable the Software Updater

Hi. I am using Avast One free, so I shouldn’t even have this feature available, but for some reason the software updater’s auto update feature IS on and keeps updating random apps or even worse, REINSTALLING uninstalled apps. I guess you could say this is a good thing, but the problem is it doesn’t even install them in the correct hard drive and I have no control over it because Avast One apparently doesn’t recognize it is enabled… It keeps reinstalling Skype and what not over and over every time I uninstall them. The only button I can see besides the check for updates button is the golden “Auto-update off” button with a lock icon. Is there a way to uninstall or disable this specific feature? Software Updater?

I have the same problem. Without my consent avast started installing and uninstalling software. I keep specific software versions that work best for me which may not be the latest. Who is avast to come and take over the machine and dictate what should or shouldnt be installed? And you cant even disable it. I will be uninstalling this rubbish software as its as bad as a trojan, i will find an alternative

It happened to me today also.
Some softwares were automatically updated and I wondered how this happened (ex. Virtualbox).
After that I observed in “Task Manager” that Avast Software Updater was running.
I have installed ONLY “Avast Free Antivirus”, I don’t want the other garbage that comes with it.

I have used Avast as my anti virus for more than 15 years, but lately it’s getting out of control: It gives false alarms for legit softwares, it blocks websites (this is sometimes good, but mostly you don’t even notice why a page doesn’t load), now it updates softwares (that shouldn’t be updated) automatically.
I even was involved in a data breach lately where this piece of garbage didn’t notice the software on my computer that stole the data out of my browser (when I tried to find out what happened, even the “most piece of shit” free antivirus recognized the trojan in the first seconds).
A few years ago, this software was the best free antivirus, now it’s just an annoying piece of garbage that doesn’t do anything right.

PS: I have silent mode permanently turned on, because otherwise it’s more annying than Kasperky in 2008 when it screamed like a pig when it found something.

PS2: Updating apps without consent is NOT OK (free antivirus should not contain the garbage that updates automatically). I’m choosing NOT TO UPDATE a few of my apps, because I need a SPECIFIC VERSION with a SPECIFIC FUNCTIONALITY.

PS3: Get your shit together AVAST, you were the best a few years ago, I started to think lately to don’t even use any other protection other than the most vulnerable piece of software existing (Windows defender…even that managed to get it’s shit togethwer after so many fails)

I got an Avast update yesterday, and now I’m having this same issue. I’m using Avast Free Antivirus, not Avast One, but it does the same thing. Very frustrating. Also very weird that nobody from Avast is replying to your or my thread about this. It’s a huge issue and we don’t even get a reply, like wtf?

It frightened me greatly. I spent several hours what caused my computer to install/update seemingly random applications. There was a remote control application, a meeting application, and several runtime applications, server application running infratructure appliations. That made me think the remnants of the threat codenamed downloader/trojan did some remote installation.
After all, I dealt with that threat just a short time ago. I struggled cleaning a virus that did suspicious activities itself.

After investigating event viewer and scheduled tasks, I finally found out that Avast has a software updater. So frightened…

Same thing happened to me despite having the Free Version. Shouldn’t even have the software updater enabled from the start. The last two days I’ve been trying to figure out if something was compromised since at first a lot of programs i very rarely use got updated and it even installed Opera even though i had opera GX installed. Only to see it still happened the next day, and saw a lot of other people having this problem.

The auto-update option is now enabled in the free version can’t be disable, are you seriously forcing user to buy premium to DISABLED A FORCED UPDATE OF THEIR SOFTWARE?

I have the same issue.

Why Avast doesn’t fix that or at least communicate about an ETA for the fix ?

I don’t know why this happens since the last avast update. It’s really annoying !
Does anyone know how to prevent Avast Software Updater from automatically updating softwares ?
Please giving out another update that user could toggle Avast Software Updater, or just uncheck the option !

Same here.
Avast, once THE slim antivirus, is getting huge, slow and annoying fast.

Same here, Some of the updates it Auto update stops the software for working.
Open Avast user Interface.
Click on Performance.
Click on Software UpDater
Top Right hand Side, Click on The Setting Gear. You will see that the Auto Update Applications is ticked and ghosted out so it cannot be turned OFF
Go Back to the Software UpDater tab. You will se a list of apps it wants to update, On the right of the list of each App there is 3 dots, Click on the dots and select Ignore.
