Uninstalling Avast causes PC to freeze upon reboot. I'm stuck with Avast. Help!

Using Avast Free 2015 v10.4.2233 under Windows 10 on a new Skylake M.2 UEFI system.

I tried to uninstall Avast (to test a theory about a game not working right), but Avast has my PC in a firm grip.
I’ve tried the usual uninstallation methods INCLUDING downloading the Avast Clean utility and rebooting into Safe Mode. Each time I’ve tried, after the system reboots to the desktop my PC basically hangs before everything loads up. I can’t get any programs to open including Internet Explorer.

The ONLY way I’ve managed to get back up and running is by doing a full restoration from a backup (I at least do frequent backups)
Problem is, all my backups have Avast installed so I’m basically forced to use Avast. I really do not want to have to wipe and do a clean install of Windows because Avast is screwing things up. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

64-bit Windows 10 (RTM Build)
No other security software
None

Regarding W10, which build…?

As I mentioned, RTM. Nothing more.

You mentioned a new computer. Most come preloaded with trial version of an AntiVirus program ???

I guess I should be more clear. I built the system from scratch and installed Avast Free under the RTM version of Windows 10. Everything runs great but Avast refuses to uninstall without locking up my system. I’ve never seen Avast do this but it’s clearly the issue. Also, same exact issue occurs if I go into the settings of Avast and disable hardware virtualization.
