Hey guys.
This is a really weird situation. I’ve checked all over the internet and can’t seem to get an answer, so hopefully posting the question here helps.
Today, I installed avast. I didn’t purchase anything or do anything wonky. All I did was scan (which happens the moment you install it), and seeing that they required credit card info for a free trial, I just closed out of everything. (Pretty sure everything is normal up to here). I felt like uninstalling it, so I looked up the uninstaller, then downloaded it, then attempted to uninstall it. However, they require you to restart your computer after entering safe mode. Sure, nothing strange yet. I restart. This is where stuff gets out of hand. Instead of the normal login screen after restarting, the font on everything is significantly larger (User name, buttons, anything on the restart screen), the entire screen is laggy, and strangest of all, MY PASSWORD DOES NOT WORK. I tried both my email password (the one my laptop is linked to) and my normal password, and yet it doesn’t work. I decide to shut down here, I mean, what else was I supposed to do? And once I did that, I turned the laptop on again. And instead of going to the login screen, a blue screen popped up. I can’t exactly remember what was on it, but there were two options. One was going “into windows 10”, and the other option was AVAST antivirus thingy. (This is before you enter your login for the laptop). Pressing AVAST just takes me to the screen that is laggy, has big font, and the password doesnt work issue. So, I’m forced to go to windows 10. Luckily, this leads to the normal login screen, font is normal, nothing is laggy, and I can enter my password properly. This time, the antivirus uninstaller app opens up (which is supposed to happen), and once again, I’m prompted to enter safe mode. This time, I press no. I’m not asked to restart or anything, and Avast Antivirus is uninstalled. Happy right? No. I went to check program files (x86), and there’s an AVAST Software folder. Note that AVAST was already uninstalled at this point; It’s not in my apps, folders, or anywhere else BAR under the section of program files (x86). I tried deleting this folder, but it says it’s already open or something. I literally restart my computer and shut it down numerous times, and I still can’t delete the AVAST Software folder. Says it’s open. Task manager says AVAST isn’t running.
So my three questions: What the hell was the weird login thingy, where my password was wrong and the screen was laggy and the font was big? Second, why did the two options even pop up as “windows 10” and “Avast antivirus” when I shut down my computer and I reopened it? Normally, it just heads to the login screen for windows 10. And third, HOW THE HELL DO I GET RID OF THE AVAST SOFTWARE FOLDER?
Someone please help.
Uninstall Avast
Download the Avast Uninstall Utility to your Deskto http://www.avast.com/en-gb/uninstall-utility
For Windows XP and Vista get the Avast Removal tool from here https://install.avcdn.avast.com/iavs9x-xp/avastclear.exe
Uninstall Avast via control panel and follow the directions.
Run the Uninstall Utility and accept the reboot to safe mode
Once complete reboot your system.
A video to help you use the Avast Uninstall Utility is available at: https://youtu.be/KD8LO8OxmvM
When the uninstall utility is used and you get the same error, what next steps should be taken?
Is a screenshot of the “wired” startup available?
Are you able to get into Safe Mode?
It’s very difficult to explain, but here’s a youtube video detailing the weird shutdown.

Now, as you see, there are 3 options. The windows 10 one is the one I should enter by default. My question is how I should remove the other 2 options (both of which are the antivirus one) from ever appearing. The youtube video only shows a way to AUTOMATICALLY enter windows 10, but my question is why the other two options even appear at all, and how to REMOVE them, not HIDE them from ever appearing.

If you see this picture, you can see that there are 3 setup options. What the youtube video shows is how to automatically enter windows 10 without the blue screen interrupting at all. I want to remove the 2 other antivirus. Like, get rid of them. The screenshot shows that even after automatically entering windows 10, there are still the other two options. I’m not sure if what I’m saying makes sense, but I just want to remove the other options, not just enter windows 10 automatically.
Use the Run command then msconfig

From here you would be able to delete the Avast Clear Uninstall entry if it exists.
It worked! Thanks for the help.
You’re welcome, happy to help.
