Unreputable add-ons warning - Bullshit

Again more problems with the builtin browser cleanup in Avast.

First of all the cleanup is very poorly designed, calling out perfectly fine addons for having a poor reputation. Avast really need to do something about this system.

But that’s not the worst part, the worst part is the bullshit that happens after you click skip.

My browser search engine, is the default Google setting in Firefox. Yet Avast calls out my search engine setting and advices to set Avast search, which Avast conveniently earns money on, when people are using it.

I’m not sure if this is just bad design or really poor coding, or if this is done on purpose so they can highjack peoples browsers with Avast search. I’m inclined to the latter, considering they have highjacked search engines and startpages before, without warning.

Personally I have never installed this add-on as I believe I know what add-ons I’m installing and what search engine I use. Your example, just reinforces my choice not to install it in the first place.

I just realized it also warns me about my homepage. My homepage is about:newtab …

Now I’m 100% certain this is done on purpose, there is no intelligence behind the “warning” and it tries to lure people into setting Avast Search as search provider and start page. >:( >:( >:(
