UNSECURED Avast will not restart

Hello.
Please help. I am not good at computers. Did a system restore early on July 5th. All went well but Avast now shows it is UNSECURED and will not restart. My maintenance area shows all updates " unknown".
Note added: In Sevices my Com + System application refuses to start. Could tiis affect Avast failure to restart.
I updated to the new program version on July 4/ 11 and it installed perfectly. I have no other antivirus, always have had Avast and love it.
If I upgrade to 1 year paid version do I have to uninstall my present version?
I noticed a person had this problem too and you said to include these files.
Here goes, I will try to send them.

I was also having issues with Avast! suddenly not working, saying Unsecured as noted by many other users recently. I’m on an old Win2000 box (please don’t make fun of me).

I tried Add/Remove Programs > Repair and restarted my computer twice and that did not help.

Then I went to Add/Remove Programs > Update and that seems to have restarted Avast, and all of the shields appear to also be running fine too.

Hope this helps other frustrated users. Thanks to Avast for providing a great product for older operating systems too.
