The avast! antivirus program has been stopped, or is in an inconsistent state. Please re-start the program to resume protecting your system. Start program does not work.
Settings > Troubleshooting > unchecking “Enable avast! self-defense module” does not stick. Therefore cannot stop in Task Manager to restart it.
Rebooting did not solve this.
[ol]- How do I stop Avast! and restart it without uninstalling and re-installing at this point?
Any ideas as to what caused this to happen in the first place?[/ol]
Thanks, Lukas. I just gave up and uninstalled and reinstalled. Works for now. If it happens again, though, I’m going to another route. There needs to be an easier way or at least an explanation on how to quit Avast! All the others I’ve tried doesn’t have that problem.
I am having the same problem. I cant update the program and defs because it says the program is not running and it services it says it has started. Trying to do anything as an Admin isn’t working either.
You will just need to uninstall from Control Panel > Uninstall Program. Uninstalling and re-installing worked for me, but kind of a cumbersome solution. After re-installing, you will need to redo your preferences.
