Unsolved since several months: Blocked incoming/outgoing e-mails!

Hello,

I would be interested to know how many more months AVAST needs to solve the problem with activated email checks (incoming/outgoing) in Thunderbird 102.6.1 and Outlook 2013 Prof. since about April/May?

Both the current AVAST Free Antivirus 22.12.6044 (build 22.12.7758.769) and Premium versions at customers on different computers at different locations block incoming and outgoing EMail traffic. Only when Mail Shield → Scan in- and outbound emails is disabled, you can use Thunderbird and Outlook normally again and receive and send emails.

Thanks in advance and kind regards

It is very unfortunate that Avast no longer seems to be able to offer security software that checks incoming and outgoing emails and does not block incoming and outgoing.

Working just fine on my system, specifications in my signature.

Note my email client is Thunderbird.

@vj2
I cannot send to IMAP email account using Thunderbird and Avast, but receiving emails is OK from that account.
Another POP email account sending and receiving is OK using same Thunderbird and Avast.

I wonder if @DavidR is using IMAP or POP email, when saying he has no problems?

I don’t use IMAP, POP email.

The solution is in all cases to disable
Menu> Protection> Core Shields> Mail Shield> untick, “Scan outbound emails (SMTP)” and incoming emails!

So you should disable the mail shield so that you can use your EMailClient properly. This is simply grotesque!
What do you need such a function in Avast for?

Kind regards

All mail providers scan in/outgoing mail at the mail server for malware and spam and many use multiple scan engines, so you have protection even if avast scan fail

I guess that explains why DavidR is not seeing IMAP email problems on his Thunderbird+Avast.

I have three Google IMAP accounts running through Thunderbird without issue.

Avast Premium 22.12.6044 build 22.12.7758.769 with Mail Shield enabled, Win 11, Thunderbird 102.6.1 x64.

True, and Avast (without the email app) will still scan a file/folder using it’s normal shield when one opens a file and/or folder even in email.

No problems with Thunderbird 102.7.0. I use POP and SMTP with SSL/TLS connection security (IMAP for my received Gmails).

I am still having to keep “scan outgoing emails (SMTP)” turned off in order to send to my IMAP email account on Thunderbird 102.7.0 (64-bit).
