Unsure of infection

Hi

I recently performed a system reset of my laptop and re-installed Avast anti-virus 2015. When I did this I was asked to perform a ‘boot scan’ which detected a malware and moved it to the ‘chest’. I am now unsure whether this means i have a virus or did have a virus or need to do anything with the ‘malware in the ‘chest’’?!

I am keen to install an ssd in my laptop to improve performance but am reluctant to do this if there is still a problem lurking in my system. Any help from you would be greatly appreciated.

I have attached the requested files from the relevant scans from the “Logs to assist in cleaning malware” thread.

Yours hopefully

What did avast detect? malware name given by avast?

Where was the file located, full file path and file name?

Name - edsloader.exe location - c:\acer\empoweringtechnology\edatasecurity virus - Win32:Malware-gen
Name - unp205446490.tmp location - C:\Windows\Temp_avast_ virus - Win32:Malware-gen

Hope this is the relevant information you need

Thanks for the reply

hey the virus chest is a safe place where infected files will be stored, it will not damage your system to have infecteded files in the chest.

The first one seems to be a FP on a acer file
Right click that file in chest … From the menu, send it to avast lab as possible false positive

Essexboy will check your logs when he is online later today

System looks clean. Any problems ?

no, none up to now!

Like i said in my original post i am wanting to install an ssd and wanted to make sure these files weren’t going to cause any problems when i come to clone my hard drive.

I’m guessing as long as they’re in the chest they shouldn’t interfere?

They are both false positives, but will not be required to migrate to SSD
