Update 5.0 not updating

Hi, my version isn’t updating and windows is saying it’s out of date. I’ve kept trying to update without success. The last update was Feb 28th with version 5.0.377 and the new version is 5.0.418. I’ve also checked my date/time and it’s all good. Avast registration doesn’t expire until Aug 1, 2010. Any ideas what i can do or why it’s doing this?

I suggest an installation from the scratch (early v5 has update errors):

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
  6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
  7. Check and post the results.

Thank you! I uninstalled the older version of Avast 5.0 through control panel, add remove programs and installed the newer version and it updated fine.
I had suspected that was the way I had to go. Thanks again for the confirmation.

I had another computer with the same problem. Couldn’t remove it through control panel add remove programs, so removed it in safe mode. Installed the new version and it’s working now as well. Thanks again for your help in this matter.
