Update checking for new database and program, telling me no new ones

I’m having trouble with Avast on Win XP with the latest updates all installed.

Engine and definitions: 100228-0
Program: 5.0.377

Avast is telling me in the manual update window that there is a new program version, but when I tell it to update, it says I already have the latest version installed. And re the virus definitions: I can’t believe that there haven’t been any updates since 2/28. But here, too, manual update is telling me I have the most recent version.

Any ideas what the problem could be? Could it be a virus, ironically enough?

Latest avast is 5.0.462

Exactly. So why the discrepancy? Avast says there is a newer version, but only on the info screen of the manual update window. The update itself gives the result that there isn’t a newer version.

so you have to download and install the new manually,i think 5.0.377 had a bug

OK, I’ll try that. I tried manually updating the virus database, but it said it the database was current. I’ll post back if it didn’t work. Thank you.

i think pondus is right there was a bug. i think. but the newest version has a lot fixed and is even more better than your current version.

I agree, get the latest version (.462). .377 was the first “final” (i.e., post-beta) release of avast 5, and did have a lot of problems. Nearly all of those have now been cleaned up (at least for the majority of users) with more current versions.
