Checking this morning I find that on the main screen of my avast professional 4.8.1335 that I am at update 090304-0 but your site shows 090305-0. I am set for auto updates so I did a manual to see what was wrong and it comes back and says I am up to date with 090305-0 but going back to the main screen still shows 090304-0. I checked under logs and found this under the warnings
3/4/2009 9:15:44 PM SYSTEM 1472 Function setifaceUpdateFiles() has failed. Return code is 0xC0000142, dwRes is C0000142.
3/4/2009 9:15:44 PM SYSTEM 1472 An error has occured while attempting to update. Please check the logs.
So I am worried that I may not be up to date. So do I have a problem or since the manual update shows me up to date am I ok. I am running Windows XP sp3. Thank you slybo
I guess this is going to be a bad day. while on cnet website I got a notice at the botton of the screen from avast and found this under the warning log
3/5/2009 4:03:13 AM Sylvester 1480 Sign of “JS:ScriptPE-inf [trj]” has been found in “C:\Documents and Settings\Sylvester\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\AA0304L7\search[1].htm” file.
So I deleted the temorary internet files. Will that take care of the problem? and does this have anything to do with my undate problem as this is the first time avast has found anything on this computer?
Thanks slybo
Which firewall do you use?
Any other security program that could interfere with the update?
Was it an intermittent problem, i.e., can you manually update avast now?
About the detection, seems you’re protected, avast detected and blocked the infection. Don’t worry.
I use the windows firewall and have a netgear wired router. The only other security software I have running is Windows Defender. I can click on the avast ball and click on update and it will update and the box that shows up says I am up to date with 090305-0 but when I open the avast program at the botton of the page it shows 090304-0. This is the first time any of this has happened. I hope this answers your questions if not let me know. Thanks slybo
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
The repair worked and everything seems to be ok. The main screen in the avast program has 090305-0 at the bottom of the screen as it should. Thank you for the fast and good help. Let us hope that it was a glitch as you said and it will not happen again. Let me take the time to tell you I have had avast for about 2 years and have been very happy with it. I had Norton before and had lots of problems. One of the best things about avast is this forum. I read here every day but due to no problems have not had to post. I will post back if I do have any more problems. Thank You very much, slybo
