update failed

my avast is set to update as soon as my computer has turned on, lately I’ve been getting errors like:

6/8/2005 9:22:08 AM SYSTEM 504 Function setifaceUpdatePackages() has failed. Return code is 0x00000002, dwRes is 00000002.
6/8/2005 9:22:09 AM SYSTEM 504 An error has occured while attempting to update. Please check the logs.

can anyone help me solve this, oh yeah and even though i get this error, if i go to the avast icon and update it works fine, so it might just be the auto update if anything. thanks in advance

You don’t need to worry that much… logs verbose…
Anyway, try to repair your installation:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

Don’t know if it’s similar, but I received something like this during update then I was on dial-up I’ve disconnected it, and after some time received red notification instead of blue in the corner of screen.

I’ve got bunch of similar messages in my Avast log Warning section. However, I simply don’t care. ;D

Here is my reasoning. Although I could keep my PC connected to the net by contract, I don’t do it. I even turn off my internet modem when no local computer is using it. Also, I configured Avast.ini file not to ping to the update servers since I think it is stupid of Avast update function that it pings to one of the update servers once in 40 seconds while it attempts to update only once in 4 hours (This probably is related with the “push update” with Pro Ed).

So, poor Avast “thinks” it is always connected to the net and tries to update but finds no update servers available and “complains” it to the log file.

I don’t know how to read each of error messages but this is my interpretation. Please correct me if I’m wrong. About the red error notification pop-up? I suppressed it by tweaking Avast ini.file, as well. Now poor Avast can’t but nag to me in the log file. :stuck_out_tongue:
