I’m not sure if this worth mentioning, but just in case…
Today when my Win7 computer updated it’s avast! virus defs, it popped up 120404-0, which was odd, considering that this was after midnight local time on April 6th (just moments ago, actually). But when I brought up the avast! interface, it shows as 120405-1, which is what I would have expected.
Any ideas as to the discrepancy? Important? Or just chalk it up to one of those weird “glitches?”
My avast Internet Security is behaving oddly in my laptop, for several days since I updated the program to 7.0.1456
I am using Avast Internet Security licenced version in 2 desktops and 1 laptop. My laptop and one desktop is running on Windows 7 64 bit and one old desktop is running on XP (SP3) 32 bit. The other two desktops are running ok, but my laptop update is problematic. The Windows are up to date in all systems.
It is not automatically updating and the red “Avast Information” window pops up saying that automatic update was unsuccessful etc. etc…Update Now. When I manually do so the Menu “Maintenance > Update” Menu it shows “Engine and definitions: Already up to date” (Current version 120710-1).
But in “Summary > Current Status> Virus definitions Version:” it shows (!) 120704-0 Update.
I have tried manually updating both Engine and definitions, as well as, Program update (Current version: 7.0.1456).
I checked the “\Program Files\Avast Software\Avast\defs” directory the folder containing .dll, .dat, .map file is only 12070400 and def.ini is also outdated (04-Jul-2012), I guess. The _stream files are updated, the latest being 12071000_stream, that is of today.
The aswdefs.ini is not also updated. It contains
[Definitions]
Latest=12070400
Rebooting did not help.
Any corruption is possible. There have been no suspicious activity or virus attack.
Thank you very much craigb and Asyn. I did not honestly expect your lighting replies.
Downloading and reinstallation of Avast Internet Security has worked. My sincere apologies for not trying your suggestions. I had a gut feel that it will work. During the installation, the quick scan showed no infection. Could it be bug? You AVAST! Super-Evangelists will know better. I will not hazard a guess, though.
Avast has been an awesome antivirus and I have been using it for years, mostly the free version, which has been a great preventive software. Now I use licenced versions.
Systematically, I have been installing first thing after formating and OS installation. Never faced this issue earlier.
