I just updated through the GUI to version 6.
When checking in windows explorer in program files, it shows avast 5.
What’s up with that?
That’s o.k. for the update over the GUI!!!
You get a new (neutral) programm-folder, when you make a clean install.
DavidR explained it for me yesterday.
I’ll search the post an will post the link here.
Gimme a few seconds…
Edit:
Here’s the link:

I’m guessing the folder location i.e. \avast5.…?
This is to preserve the install, simply if you change folder names it will break other parts (like registry entries etc.)
If you uninstall/install it would be 6 (or just avast, not sure)
Mine is the same, and still has ALWIL in the name, but works.
David usually explains better

Yea,
The way it was explained is that if you update through the AV version 5 GUI, Avast keeps things like your license key and settings in the Avast 5 folder for carry over. It needs that folder as a reference point, using those settings so you don’t have to re-register or have existing settings changed.
If you uninstall version 5, prior to installing version 6, the version 5 folders and settings are removed, and because you uninstalled version 5, Avast gives you a version 6 folder, and counts you as a new unregistered user, untill you register with a new license key.

Hi Scott,
I made a clean install of Version 6 yesterday.
The name of the folder is just “avast” (without “6”)!
I think, this will be better for the next version-updates over the GUI…
Yeah, I sort of expected that, to prevent this in the future
I have only updated over so I wasn’t too sure, thanks
Very gladly!
Bye, bye
~SKY~
Got it guys, thanks.
And DavidR.
;D
You’re welcome.
