Updated to 110116.0 Free Version

I got the latest update lastnight and it keeps searching my A: on startup many times. Seems alot slower starting now.

what avast version do you have ? Latest is 5.1.889

Hmmm… are you sure it is avast who is searching for the floppy?

Yes I had 5.1.889 at that time and it is definately caused by that version. I noticed when I open up any of Office Microsoft 2010 programs it starts to scan the A: also. I just installed the latest update and it knocked me offline not able to connect to the internet so rolled back to 5.0.677 and it does not scan the A: drive nor does it when I open up any Office programs and I can connect to the internet now. Something is really messed up with 5.1.889.

I have had no problems with 5.1.889. This may sound rhetorical but, did you do a clean uninstall then a clean install?

It sound like maybe you opened MS office and searched “drive A” or clicked on “drive A” in my computer. The AV would not just scan the drive unless MS office was telling it that it (MS office) was accessing a file there. Try putting a floppy in the drive once, Open the drive and then properly close it - then eject the disc and see if that cures it. MS office will continue to search drive A till it finds something. I’m most amazed that a 3.5 floppy still exist that is not used for a coaster. I just realized that I haven’t even seen a floppy in at least 5 years. If you don’t use the drive, then I would just disable it. MS office will search the A drive if its in the path or if you ever saved a file to drive A. If drive “a” is in your recents then MS Office is the culprit.

I just used the aswClear removal tool and did a fresh install of the latest version 5.1.899 and was able to get my system to finally connect to the internet again without having to roll back to the previous version. The only thing that still happens is the constant scanning of the A: on startup or when opening up any of Microsoft Office 2010 programs. I noticed I am not the only one experiencing this problem by comments here on the forum. I still feel it has someting to do with the latest free version but will keep checking around to see if someone has figured out how to stop this without having to disconnect their A:.
