What’s up with Avast! Free Antivirus 5.0.462? I click on either “Update” buttons for Engine or Program and nothing happens. It just sits there telling me “Initializing, please wait”. Eight hours later, it’s still in the same situation. I’ve never had any problem with the older Avast! and, equally, my internet connection is fine/unchanged/etc.

This also happened to me after my first reboot after updating to 5.0.462! The updater hanged on initiallizing for about 15 mins before I rebooted. After reboot the updater updated fine. So, maybe you should reboot and try again.
The servers are being choked right now, which is probably the main reason for this.
Do you see the avast.setup process running? (in the Task Manager)
Also, what does the setup.log say (C:\program files\alwil software\avast5\setup\setup.log)

The reboot worked. Just so you know, I had the previous version of Avast! if that’s any help. I rebooted when it asked after install but it seems to need another reboot so the updates work. Everything’s now bang up-to-date.

That is log file .
Now I can only download the vps update to update ,maybe it will be ok tomorrow .And I will try to reinstall Avast to see if the updating program can run correctly .
