Hi,
My pc too was infected by the appalling Babylon ‘translation’ software and, yes, it’s so deeply embedded it’s almost impossible to remove.
I Googled the company who wrote the software (it’s in Israel) and sent them a threat of legal action. They responded almost immediately, but deny it’s a virus. They offered to access my pc to remove all traces of their malicious code; of course, I refused. So, I telephoned :-\ the commercial attache of the Israeli Embassy in Dublin (I’m in Ireland), who took all the details, and promised to investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, I used OTL with some success, but Firefox still has remnants of Babylon code (about:config). There are companies who offer to remove Babylon, but after trying one, downloading their ‘removal tool’ reinfected my PC and, after running a scan, the Company demanded $56 to remove it!
I suggest everyone sends an email to Babylon (www.babylon.com - use their user response system) telling them what chaos they’re causing.
If you don’t hear from me again, Mossad have paid me a visit!
Regards, John.
how did you use OTL…are you trained in the use of OTL ?
if you have a malware problem, create a topic in the virus and worms section
follow the guide and attach…not copy and paste…logs from malwarebytes / OTL / aswMBR
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
when done one of the removal experts will help you…for free
Apologies for posting in the wrong section. I’m new here!
OTL is easy to use. I copied a search and delete list from a previous post on this site. It found a number of related registry entries, but could not remove many associated with Firefox.
Regards, John.
Never copy OTL fix you see posted in forums, they are made specific for the machine the analysis was done on
Running fix not made fore your machine may damage it
Thanks for that! The fix was for a WIN7 platform - seems to work OK. Windows 7, by the way, is rubbish.
I wonder why no one detects this Babylon nonsense directly and not just as PUP. It seems to be quite a problem yet many (companies) consider it safe…
I’m wondering, is there any way of blocking an unwanted download. Google reports Babylon is often unknowingly downloaded with other software, CNet seems to be at the top of the list…
Well… I’ve installed by error once the Babylon software (for translation not the toolbar).
At that time, if I remember correctly, I was using Comodo Time Machine. It took me few minutes to revert the system.
I never pass even close of their products anymore…
Windows 7 is excellent!
I much prefer it over XP.
