Updating Avast on a computer not connected to the internet

Hello, I have Avast (Free) installed on a laptop which cannot now connect to the internet, also on an internet connected PC. Is there an easy way of routinely updating program and virus definitions by transferring files from the PC? Thanks, Peter.

I am afraid not. You can update in two ways:

  1. Update by connecting to the internet.

            OR

  2. Download the latest database updates from here : http://www.avast.com/download-update and install.

But the second method needs you to download a 31 MB file every time you want to update.

Thanks, nmb, method 2 is just what I need and no problem to achieve in a couple of minutes. I downloaded and copied to CD then executed the vpsupd.exe on the laptop and it told me the database had been updated. However, the program on the laptop still shows yesterday’s definitions (V 110125-1) whereas my desktop has 110126-1.

Does this file also update the program if needed? (Already got the latest version on the laptop).

Many thanks again for your help,

Peter

Hello peterpj,

However, the program on the laptop still shows yesterday's definitions (V 110125-1)

It takes sometime for the latest definition updates to be updated on to the site.

Does this file also update the program if needed?

No, it doesn’t update the program. For that you have to download the setup file from here : http://www.avast.com/support (choose the right version)

Many thanks again for your help

You’re welcome.

It would be nice if http://www.avast.com/download-update displayed the VPS version before download.
