Two days ago I noticed that one of my computers in my office was not updating my Avast. I tried to update it manually and received a “Broken Package” message. I did an uninstall and reinstall. When I did a scan of the computer found that it had been infected by several viruses and Trojan’s, how, I have no idea as I always kept my avast up to date. I even went to BDtools.net and did a scan thinking I was hit with the Conflicker worm but it says my system is clean. I noticed now that avast has not been updated since 3/19/09. I have tried everything I know of to rectify the problem. I am getting close to calling the Geek squad out. I have a feeling that something has gotten into the computer as my task manager has also been disabled and I was not able to get into the Microsoft site. I finally was successful in getting into Microsoft’s web site and did a Windows Live scan and it did not find anything. I need help to get this system working properly and to get my Avast working again.
Welcome to the forums.
First, we need to know what O/S this computer has, and whether or not you have the home free edition, professional, or if you use the ADNM server to manage the client computers. If it’s the ADNM, it should be updating the client by itself, but it could have an expired license or something…
Another scanner that you should try would be MalwareBytes, which can be found at http://www.malwarebytes.org. If you can’t get to their site, download it on another computer, copy it to removable media, then copy it to the “infected” computer. Then run the installation.
Run a quick scan, and let us know what it found.
You may need to run Hijackthis to see if anything else is running.
If there is any other information that you can provide as to what and where the virus is, that would be beneficial as well.
Thanks!
