Upgrade to newest version of 'Internet Security' stopped network

I upgraded to the newest version of ‘Internet Security’ after an Avast pop up cue…
Now my machine cannot talk to the network or the internet. I cannot see my LAN, and in any browser when I try to connect to a site I get “waiting for www.(whatever).com”…
I can talk to my router… and it is connected to the internet…
All the other machines on the network can access the internet and each other just fine. They all run XP or Vista. This machine runs Windows7. When I tried by loading start up items one at a time it became clear that Avast was the issue. I tried experimenting with the firewall, and all the shields, I re-installed my Ethernet adapter… Nada.
tried Reset of winsock and netsh… NADA
Currently, I have removed Avast from the system with the Avast clean up tool, and the whole thing works fine… In fact its screaming fast…
I have run Avast for years on different OS and have never encountered this kind of issue before… Is this just me? I didn’t find a like topic in search, but that may just be terms.
I would appreciate any ideas, I’m not keen to switch anti virus and I have time on this license…lol

Thanks All! ???

Hello daswaff.

PROBLEM:
I noticed from your problem that the newest version of avast! IS blocks internet connection.

SOLUTION:
Try checking the firewall. It may have been blocked your internet connection by accident.

OR

Try looking at the network settings in the firewall (the ones with “HOME, WORK OR PUBLIC” sorry i forgot the names xD)
Put it on home (or depends)

Now see if your connection works. If it didn’t then there are much more answers to this problem that users or admins have.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply, but that is where I started, “…I tried experimenting with the firewall, and all the shields…” From there I moved on to diagnostics on the adapter, then resetting the windows components, such as winsock, etc…
Even when Avast was ‘disabled’ from the user interface, my system still wasn’t interacting with the network. I had to stop it from loading to resolve my network issues. Even then uninstall was not enough and I had to use the ‘cleaner’.
Avast is still running on three of the machines in my LAN, two with XP (wired) and one with Vista (wireless), they have zero issues and run just like they always have.
It does sound like a firewall issue, but I could not make it work w/the firewall disabled from the interface… :o

To the moderator of the forum;
You can delete this thread.
I have read dozens of posts about version 8 on this forum and concluded that Avast is no longer the software of choice for me. The high incidence if critical issues has increased dramatically with Ver 8. I simply do not have time to troubleshoot my AV software several hours everyday. And many of these high level problems are not getting answers which provide solutions, which based on earlier posts appears to be a comment on the software, and not on the moderator and other high volume posters. Network issues, conflicts, and BSoD are way up and answers are way down, because answers are scarce.
My only suggestion came from someone who didn’t actually read my post…
Avast can keep the $$$ left on the license, but I need reliability.
This is sad because I started with Avast in 2005 and have recommended it to many of my friends and colleagues. It is one of the few programs that I have never been afraid to upgrade for fear of the new version being a bust… Oh well.
“There is a time for everything” and now it appears it is time to leave Avast.

before you give up, you could attach a OTL diagnostic log and let Essexboy have a look inside…

Thanks for the suggestion, I have no gripes with the forum, you guys are a fantastic resource!
Catch 22
To get the log I have to re-install Avast.
If I re-install Avast, I cannot connect to the internet, OR post on this forum. That means I have to re-install, run the logs. Uninstall and run avast cleaner. Uninstall my ethernet adapter and reload it, and then reset my windows network. AND for each possible (i say again “possible”) fix I have to jump through all of those hoops every time I want to try a solution. I have to test the solutions on this machine, but I need this machine to be up and running correctly.
I see diminishing returns on my investment of time.
Maybe Avast will get it back together in a year or so, but right now it is literally more trouble than the license is worth.

This problem happens to Me also ,but I was using the free version of avast “anti virus” ,when I want to renew my avast anti virus, avast take me a 30-day of avast internet security ,I upgraded to internet security and same of your problem happens to me ,I fixed this by restart my PC and logging to windows in “safe mode” ,in safe mode everything was good and internet was working ,then I restart PC and logging normally to windows and internet became working
