urgent help needed!

Hi, I just found this forum, and hope someone here can help.
Last night avast alerted me to several virus attacks during my browsing, and I elected “delete” for each. On some I checked the “if necessary delete on reboot”, or similar box.
This morning I canot reboot!
It goes through the loading cycle all the way to the welcome screen, but when I click my profile icon it snaps back into the black loading screen. This goes on forever.
I tried to repair the OS installation (XP), thinking I may have a corrupt file in it, but it still doesn’ t work.
Suspecting the virus of last night, I downloaded the bart2beta, but don’t know how to use it properly. I may have burnt it wrong, because it does not boot itself. Should the WinISO files even show up on it?

You need to “extract” the ISO. If you have Nero choose “burn file from image” to create the BART cd.

Also make sure the boot sequence in the bios is set to boot from cd as first device if you want to boot from cd.

Can you boot as administrator?
Can you boot in safe mode?

I used the resident XP wizard to burn the CD, and it shows shows a cd circle with “ISO” in it, and bart underneath. When opened, it shows files WinImage version 7, etc.
Should it look like that?

Sorry, the questions:
Yes, Yes.

Look at THIS WEBSITE to see how you can burn a ISO to cd. It is explained for several burner applications under the section “ISO Burning Instructions”

The XP wizzard does not support burning ISO’s as far as I know, so you need to use a third party application.

BTW so you’re saying that you can boot and log on when running Windows in Safe mode?

I thought I could, but all I can do is get into the BIOS.
BTW - it is strange, because I set the CD-ROM as booting for all 3 options, and it still goes into loading XP from the HD anyway!

Is it a CD-R or CD-RW medium? Some drives are known to boot only from CD-R’s (no CD-RW’s).

Just a thought.

It’s a CD-R.
I installed NEro now. and got as far as “burning” the bart ISO image, but Nero claims there is “not enough space available to burn the image”!

But its a regular 700 MB CD…

What happens if you tell Nero to finalize the cd after burning?

It won’t burn it, since there “isn’t enough space available”!

When I said “I got as far as” I meant only to the point of being offered to burn it, but when I clicked “burn” it told me there wasn’t enough space available.

Doesn’t it create a temporary file on HDD? Do you have enough HDD space (especially in the temp directory)?

Is the CD blank? (I mean brand new).

thanks
Vlk

I did have to delete some apps to make room on the HD. The CD is blank, new.

Just a feeling I have, make sure you have about 1.5Gb free, run defrag, and make sure you have setup Nero correctly (meaning 700Mb cd’s as standard) and that you choose finalize.

Also try another cd-r (brand). It could be the one you tried is damaged.

Ok, I’ll try all this! Thanks.
