URL:MAL explorer.exe

My computer slows to a crawl until I go into the task manager and close the Explorer.exe process. I can’t seem to get rid of whatever this is. I know explorer.exe is a windows process. Notice the capital E on it. It gets up to over 1.5 million Bytes and brings the computer to a crawl until I close it.

Have the alerts now ceased ?

The only difference is that malware bytes now is triggering an alert on it instead of avast. Once the alert is triggered I go to task manager and the explorer.exe is climbing fast towards 1 million bytes I end the process, but the alert and process ends up coming back shortly there after.

OK lets use a bigger hammer

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Still doing the same thing.

What is MBAM reporting, could I have a screenshot please

I was able to grab a quick one of the pop up it does from the tray. Also put in the most recent spamming. right after these hit the % goes way up. going to disable internet see if they stop.

Could you run FRST again but this time place a tick in the shortcuts.txt box and attach the log it produces

With the computer disconnected from internet no issues, as soon as I connect to the internet again it BAM! It was offline for over 30 mins and within 5 mins of being online it started up again. Thanks again for the assist.

Just an update I did a system restore to a few days before the issue started and it is no longer happening. I will keep an eye on it. Let me know if you need anymore logs. Very weird symptoms to have it not be a virus.

I was going to reset your DNS as that appeared to be where the problem was, however as it has now gone…

Once you are happy let me know and I will tidy up

All has been good. Okay to clean up.

Thanks again

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Wait for the uninstall process to complete.
