Greetings, I figured I would bring this matter to your attention.
So, several months ago, I was the victim of a Steam account hijack, which was due to me downloading a picture file that took over my system, forced my computer to restart, and caused a number of cases of stress on my part. I’ve already done the process of cleaning up my computer from that whole incident, but I believe that there might be a residual file hiding away within my hidden folders. For quite a while now, I’ve been getting an alert of a URL:Mal infection that is consistently blocked, or so it is said from the popup.
These were what was listed within the pop up when I investigated the alert, and it’s been consistent each time.
I should note that I’ve done multiple scans for the file and infections through MalwareBytes and Avast itself, but neither is finding the file within the scan, and I have extended the scans to as far as I can stretch them. The popup is still appearing though, and with the same info.
I’ve gone through the process of opening up the hidden folders through my file viewer in order to potentially deal with the problem that way, but that particular extension is not one that I can locate.
As such, I would very much like to bring this to your attention in order to see if you might be able to assist me in ridding myself of this issue.
Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that
THEN
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
[*]Close all open programs and internet browsers.
[*]Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
[*]Click on Scan.
[*]After the scan is complete click on “Clean”
[*]Confirm each time with Ok.
[*]Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
[*]Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
[*]You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
Both programs were run successfully with the given instructions, yet the warnings are still occurring. I have left the initial log file from the run without FRST prior on accident as a potential aid if needed.
