Twice now I have started my computer to find my keyboard disabled. rebooting started a system file check but after reboot the keyboard still would not work.
I left the computer on overnight hoping the Avast virus check that is run each night would find and clean the problem. Both times it found nothing but a reboot in the AM allowed me access to my keyboard again.
After running full scans and boot scans and both finding nothing I resorted to ComboFix as a last resort. It said I had a problem with the file C:/windows\system32\URTTemp and the program eliminated it.
One other error message I got was: The instruction at “0x7e910cce” referenced memory at “0x004d004e” The memory could not be “read”.
In addition, ComboFix quarantined two files:
2012-10-08 12:46:44 . 2012-10-08 12:46:44 261,086 ----a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\E\av5.zip
2012-10-04 15:25:03 . 2012-10-08 11:34:23 2,440 ----a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\EventSystem.log.vir
I haven’t had a recurrence but I’m wondering why my Avast software isn’t capturing these viruses.
