I love Spamihilator and Avast! and have found the easiest to get them to work with pre-XP Windows.
When I realized that if you have the e-mail program talk to the antivirus and the the antivirus talk to Spamihilator, the Antivirus doesn’t need the user name (it’s not doing anything but listening to ports) it just has to pass the user name on to Spamihilator correctly. See below.
If you have already set up Spamihilator go into the wizard and remove your e-mail account, so that the settings are as if you’re not using Spamihilator at all.
First run avast mail wizard to protect your e-mail account(if you have’nt already). When avast is protecting your e-mail account continue with the steps below.
Make the following changes.
In outlook express change account name from user#mail.isp.net to mail.isp.net&user, then
change email pop3 port from 110 to 112 and if you’re using stmp change the stmp port from 143 to 145
In avast.ini change poplisten from 110 to 112 and stmplisten to from 143 to 145. then change default pop server from mail.isp.net to localhost
Now the e-mail program talks to avast and avast sends the correct information to Spamihilator. Avast only has to check what Spamihilator allows through.
Works perfect, even with multiple accounts.
I hope this helps someone.
