uuid/dyndev

Hi,

As someone who isn’t too savvy with this sort of thing perhaps someone else can help me. I notice in my avast! statistics I keep getting:

http://192.168.1.1:5431/uuid:007f289a-*+more numbers I don’t want to paste in case it’s meant to be private*/WANPPPConnection:1

…appear. Sometimes it says ‘dyndev’ instead of ‘uuid.’ Can anyone tell me if this is normal? I don’t recall seeing it keep appearing in the past and it’s there over and over now, even if I’m not doing anything. I’m on windows 7 SP1 x64. If I look at TCPView it’s listed a bunch of times (with various local ports like 50041, 50043, 50045, 50046, 50047, 50048, 50068, 50069, etc) and it’s just shown as [System Process] and doesn’t allow more details. The ‘remote address’ listed is 192.168.1.1 which I believe is my own, and the state is always TIME_WAIT.

Edit: It seems to be related to UPnP on my router; disabling that causes it to stop. Is it normal to keep getting these constant listings with UPnP enabled? avast! shows nothing in regards to this on the other computer connected to the router.

No thoughts?

I have UPnP enabled on my router and don’t experience this, however, as long as it’s not blocking access to the router, it’s not a problem.

You don’t need UPnP if you don’t use file sharing between local network computers or shared (wireless) printers on the network.

If you do need it, does it occur when file sharing or printing task is ongoing?

Hi,

No, I don’t use file sharing between the two computers here. As said, I never used to get these constant logs and on my wife’s computer (both use a wired connection to the router) it doesn’t display that string at all in the ‘Statistics’ page of Avast, so I’m not sure why mine has started to do so.

Does the fact the ‘remote address’ is listed is 192.168.1.1 mean that this isn’t anything untoward coming from outside? I don’t know enough to figure that out.

It’s just connecting to the router. It’s not coming from outside. Most router have a firewall built in anyways.

Since you don’t use file sharing and printer sharing, it’s useless anyways. You can feel free to disable it.

On another note, have you ever flashed the router?

I think another user had an issue like this before and a reset of the router fixed it.

Does flashing a router mean updating it? Apparently it’s on the latest firmware already (it’s an Actiontec GT784WN-VZ-1.1.6). It could be the router, but like I said it doesn’t do it on my wife’s computer when I look at avast!'s stats page. I’m pleased this isn’t some sort of hijack though; I’m not an expect on computers (I get by okay) and I didn’t know if this was somebody accessing it from elsewhere.

In any case I also disabled the UPnP in my router since I don’t need it.

Yes flashing includes updating the router. But since you don’t need it anyways, it’s not a problem.
