v4.1 appears to crash my Freecell game.

I’m running win98se

I know its not the worst thing in the world, but since I was upgraded to 4.1 my Freecell game is not working. Here’s what I get when open Freecell:
All looks well but a ‘hand’ icon for the mouse pointer appears over the game area instead of just the ‘arrow’ icon. I’ve removed and reinstalled the ‘accessories’ but the same problem persists.

Dunno what to do:/

I have Win98. Freecell doesn’t work on mine either.

Mine either, and same Windows 98.

It’s quite strange, I must say ???

Does anything change when you pause the Standard Shield provider? Or when you stop it? Or when you stop the resident protection at all? (temporarily, I mean :))

Folks, I’m confused.

I mean, really, what do I tell our testers? Should I whip them as they overlooked such an easy-to-simulate problem? Or should I praise them as they were not playing card games during their work hours?

I need some serious advice here. ;D

Maybe one more questions - do you guys you Home or Pro version?

An idea: what happens if you turn off the IM and P2P providers, and THEN start the FreeCell? Does that work?

Thanks,
Vlk

Hi Vlk,

my FreeCell works like a charm with avat 4.1

I have the Pro version, 3 of 6 providers running (Standard Shield, Internet Mail and Script Blocker). Even after temporary switching IM and P2P providers on, Freecell works fine too ???

Hi, I’m running the Home version.

I already tried pause or terminating the standard shield and freecell still hangs. You should praise your testers for not playing cards during their work hours. Except for one. That one you need to rack over the coals as an example for the others. Instills fear in the workplace. ;D

Same problem here. Running Win98SE & avast! Home with just the Standard Shield & IM providers. Terminating the IM provider gets FreeCell working. Pausing it doesn’t help.

I guess to me not having the IM provider running isn’t that bad since I just started using Miranda IM. Trillian’s a great program but I’m not missing anything. All I want to do is be able to chat & not have to run multiple programs.

It is however a problem for those that do want to run the IM provider.

That’s interesting. When I terminate the IM provider freecell still hangs. However, when I terminate the P2P provider freecell.exe gets scanned by avast and opens prorperly.

OK, fine, no wonder. The P2P and IM providers use the same “guts”. I.e. to disable these guts you need to terminate both of them.

I’m glad you confirmed that the problem is indeed caused by the new P2P and IM providers - now it should be quite easy to fix this prob.

Thanks,
Vlk

All right folks. I’ve created a test version that may solve the FreeCell issue. Please download it from

http://cat.asw.cz/~vlk/AvCommEx.dll

and put it to your avast folder (the original version will be most likely locked in memory so you’ll probably have to do some serious process-slaughter first).

As always, please keep me updated.

I’m cool, I don’t even know how to play freecell anyway.

Culperer, even if you can’t play it, you were saying it was not working with the latest avast update. So there is a change with the new DLL…?

I know, and some people want it fixed faster than I need to, which is okay. I’m sure the problem fix will be included in the next program update. I was just helping out narrowing down the problem. Thanks.

Vlk, FC is working fine after replacing the old .dll file with this one … ;D;D ;D ;D
Many thanx ;D

Same here. Everything is running fine now.

Well, FC is running fine now:) Just glad that I don’t play Hearts as it completely locks the system , arrgghhh.
