Vanti-BB cannot be cleaned

My computer is infected with Vanti-BB. I have Avast Pro. Every time I boot up it detects the infection and then whatever I choose it never cleans up the virus because the next time it is there again.

I’m getting tired of this. How do I clean this virus up? I have already tried boot-time scan, no luck.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums, gmagana.

Please download HijackThis from the link below, run the program but do not make any fixes, and then post the log results in this thread using the “copy & paste” method. It will probably take more than one post to be able to get the complete log posted. Someone will review your log and then offer help.

FINALLY FOR NOW

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

[]Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
[
]Close any open browsers.
[*]Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

[*]Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause “unpredictable results”.
[*]Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don’t know how to disable it, please ask.

[*]Close any open browsers.
[*]WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
[]Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
[
]If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

[*]Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]When finished, it will produce a report for you.
[*]Please post the “C:\ComboFix.txt” along with a new HijackThis log for further review.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix’s window while it’s running. That may cause it to stall

Logs required : OTMoveit and Combofix

Thanks again for your help. Here is the OTMoveIT log you asked for. The Combofix log is attached as a file.

I do not see the Avast errors anymore upon bootup  Does this mean my system is clean?

C:\WINDOWS\system32\kavo.exe moved successfully.
C:\WINDOWS\caxchg.exe moved successfully.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tavo.exe moved successfully.

  2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tavo0.dll
C:\gqsk.bat
C:\.rnd
C:\p9.exe
C:\o2yf0w.bat

  1. Then in the text file go to FILE > SAVE AS and in the dropdown box select SAVE AS TYPE to ALL FILES

http://users.pandora.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/CFScript.gif

  1. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
    [*]Combofix.txt [*]A new HijackThis log.

Done. Attached are the two logs…

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

Double click OTMoveIt once again and you should see a CleanUp! button, press that button, you may get prompted by your firewall that OTMoveIt wants to contact the internet, allow this, a cleanup.txt will be downloaded, a message dialog will ask you if you want to proceed with the cleanup process, click Yes. This will delete all the tools you have downloaded plus itself

Now to get you off to a good start we will re-set your restore points so that all the bad stuff is gone for good. Then if you need to restore at some stage you will be clean. There are several ways to reset your your restore point but this is my method:

  1. Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > System Restore.
  2. On the dialogue box that appears select Create a Restore Point
  3. Click NEXT
  4. Enter a name e.g. Clean
  5. Click CREATE

You now have a clean restore point, to get rid of the bad ones:

  1. Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > Disk Cleanup.
  2. In the Drop down box that appears select your main drive e.g. C
  3. Click OK
  4. The System will do some calculation and the display a dialogue box with TABS
  5. Select the More Options Tab.
  6. At the bottom will be a system restore box with a CLEANUP button click this
  7. Accept the Warning and select OK again, the program will close and you are done

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free program:
[*]SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit
[*]Microsoft Windows Update

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Keep safe

THANK YOU! You have been extremely helpful.

Why didn’t Avast catch this? I was infected with this with Avast installed and running.

Also, why couldn’t Avast clean this up?

Thanks for your help!

Because not a software is perfect…

It can’t clean what it can’t detect.
Only (some) executable files infected could be cleaned by avast VRDB.

Sorry I was not attacking Avast, I’m just worried that I am not protected enough… So if Avast was not built for this task I wouldlilke to know since I visit several different client sites (I build financial software), and it looks kind of unprofessional to boot up your computer and the first thing a client sees is an antivirus telling you you’re infected.

I just want to make sure I am protected, I got this thing from a client site’s network, so I want to make sure it does not happen again.

My computer is clean, though, so I’m happy with Avast and with your guys’ support. I think I will recommend Avast to the client that infected my computer in the first place.

Thanks!

I had several infections from several months ago. I really need to know if avast will not be updated with current virus signatures, including malware. I know software can’t be perfect, and I can understand an antivirus software may not be updated when a new virus arrive, but I cannot understand being infected (and have other computers infected too) by viruses and malware already detected since 2007.

I’m still getting infections from “kavo” (detected as WIN32.Besso by Dr. Web) and some other viruses detected by other antivirus, but for avast is still the same, now are detected by a manual scan, but inserting a pen drive is just like a nightmare, and can’t disable autorun on all computers just because of this… I’m concerned about how slow was the update of avast for these malware/virus.

I sent virus samples weeks ago. No response yet.

danny: what you mean is the difference between on-access and on-demand scan? the same file is detected when you request a direct scan of it, but is not detected when you plug your usb stick in?
