Version: 17.9.2322

Several people have reported that the new version prevents a particular program from running. I had a problem which is somewhat similar with the now-old version (17.8.2318), which I was able to resolve by doing the following:

  • Disable shields (Right-click on orange blob → Avast shields control → Disable for 10 minutes)
  • Run the program which normally will not start, then close it
  • If it ran correctly, re-enable the shields (Right-click → Avast shields control → Enable all shields)
  • Run the program again (it might work now)

I do not know for sure why this worked for me. It seems that once the program is able to run correctly once, Avast does less scanning of it subsequently.

I am planning to wait a while before updating to 17.9.2322. ;D

The new version of avast when i try to open outlook 2016 from office 365 crash the outlook.
Fortuanally the next time i start the outlook 2016 the program disable the avast plugin, otherwise it would costed me several hours to find why the outlook 2016 suddenly start to crash.

Confirmed:

This morning, when the computer was powered on, both test computers showed that the AVAST(free ver17.9.2322) license expired without internet connection. Now, I am confused.
Next time I had to test avast separately。

Absolutly right I confirm. No anti-spam anymore visible and trying to éadd-in" crashes OUTLOOK 2013". Great job Avast ! Fantastic shit.
Also, by making installation modification suppress for example Anti-Spam and reinstall it, great it complains that defender is running. Bull shit software is coming up. I have paid now for 3 computers until 2019. Was not a good deal !

Well this new release has just screwed up all 3 of my computers.
I am hoping AVAST will release another version within 24 hours to sort.
In the mean time I’ve cancelled all my auto renewal subscriptions and will be moving to another supplier if not resolved fast…
Utterly unacceptable…

Since you aren’t offering any details, we also can’t offer any help or advice. :frowning:

Glad to have found this thread. After updating to this current version I’m having problems with opening attachments in Outlook 2010. Whenever I click on the attachment to open it, Outlook will crash. OS is Win XP SP3.

First time encountering a serious bug after using Avast for the last 2-3 years.

Wish I could roll back to the previous version. Hope Avast releases a new update soon.

Thanks for this bad update. First, not all services ran, Avast reinstalled, then ran the services. Outlook 365 does not start anymore, it depends on the AVAST plugin. A new installation brought no improvement. Why do you bring such a bad update among the users. I am annoyed for having paid for this software money.

The same problem for me. When I’m playing, the second AvastUI.exe causes minimalize all fullscreen games. We hope a fix.

Temporary workaround:https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=212056.msg1437965#msg1437965

Fixed a problem with white UI (you might see more processes AvastUI.exe now, but that’s OK)

No it’s not OK. One process uses 83.5mb of memory and just sits there doing nothing. It only kicks in 10mins after reboot. I have tried a repair several times but to no avail.

Can you undo this “FIX”.

What’s kicking in is the root kit scan.

The UI is doing the scan? What?

Many thanks for such a prompt reply, but what is a root scan and can I shut it down. I tried to kill the process but I get a message “access denied”. It also seems to freeze programmes running in full screen mode.

Rootkit scan -

Hi Bob,
Yep I tried that, it had no effect.
I also disabled anti rootkit monitor, this too had no effect.
Both times I rebooted.
Memory usage has now climbed from 83.5mb to 83.7, so it appears to be getting steadily worse.

Certainly not my experience.

Are you sure you don’t have something else running in the background that’s forcing Avast to scan
that activity ???

The anti-rootkit scan is likely to have no effect on the avastUI.exe as that is covered by the main avastSvc.exe function.

That said 83MB in the greater scheme of things is really not much on systems with GBs of RAM.

The highest memory hog is my browser, followed by my email program, then by one of my avastUI.exe instances (even more than yours), am I concerned about that not really. RAM is there to be used (and is managed by windows), on this winXP Pro desktop I only have 4GB of RAM, on my win10 Laptop I have 8GB of RAM so even less of a concern on that.

EDIT: typo.
