Version: 20.1 (February 2020)

Updated to 20.1 on my desktop, Noticed that below 2 options turned on in Personal Privacy after reboot for update

  • Share app-usage data with Avast to help us with new product development
  • Share app-usage data with Avast so we may offer you 3rd party products

Noticed the same thing myself, isn’t the first time it has happened where they have added in additional privacy options and turned them on by default.
I have no idea how easy it is to have them off by default if every other privacy option was already off but it sucks having to check up on these things.

I actually only just learned about all this data selling stuff today also, I was totally in the dark. Luckily I don’t use the browser extensions or anything on any machine also.

I really hope this version does reduce the pop-ups, I really don’t need to be explaining to my older family members that it’s OK and they don’t need to worry about this and that.

Hello! This is my first post here and I’m wondering if anybody is having this problem. I’ve been an Avast user since 2008 and I recently upgraded from Win 7 Ultimate SP1 32 bit to Win 10 Pro 32bit build 1903 after Avast upgraded to this latest version 20.1.2397 from the previous version, you can’t see the interface or controls such as the settings box, in another words you can not see nothing period on the screen it’s just blank even by clicking and trying to open the interface box which means there’s no way to adjust anything, but I know it’s working because you can see the icon in the lower hand tray, and it by all means say’s it’s working. I tried everything to try to fix it, but nothing worked. Good thing I had my computer backed up! If this is a problem, I sure hope it can be fixed! In all of these years of use, this my very first issue with Avast.
Thanks.

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

Hi, so finally new Avast version 20.1 is here]

Updated all three of my computers, no problems so far.

After four months I can create USB Rescue Media again. They didn’t take as long as they used to either.

OK, I also got auto-updated despite “Ask when an update is available” being selected.

However, I also avoided restarting and while still running 19.7:

  1. Saved my Avast settings.

  2. Disabled my network interface so 20.0 would not be able phone home.

  3. Then let Avast restart.

  4. (I figured it was better to let the 20.0 update complete before uninstalling; more of a chance for the uninstaller to get confused by the in-between state of affairs.)

  5. Uninstalled Avast.

  6. Reinstalled 19.7 with the offline installer. [19.7.2388 (build 19.7.4674.0)]

  7. Restored my Avast settings from the save file.

  8. Changed “Ask when an update is available” to “Manual Update.”

  9. (There are some more restarts in this process.)

  10. Reenabled my network interface.

  11. Awhile later Avast requested a Restart.

  12. After the restart, the build number changed: 19.7.2388 (build 19.7.4674.552). (I think this is still a program update disobeying my selection.)

  13. So far, this seems to be holding off 20.0.

Edit: Link updated.

My bad, sorry, I didn’t look hard enough in that egg, especially as the menu is still in English.
Having said that, I just saw with the link that the explanations are now translated, they were not translated some time ago.
Also, I will edit the toolbox in the French session to replace the “old settings” part by the hidden menu. It’s quite often that users were pointed to “old settings”.
Thanks Asyn & NON

You’re welcome.

You’re welcome

1.Windows10 fresh install offline free version.
2.After installation, the interface shows that it has expired
3.Click Select Protection Type and select the free version.
4.Give back to try premium security for 60 days for free. Choose “no, thank you”
5.The software still shows expired. no change.
View the IP of the software connection during this period:5.45.58.177, 5.62.53.249, 203.208.43.94, 5.45.58.126, 5.45.59.250, 119.81.94.3, 23.59.247.40,
Because it’s using China Mobile Broadband.Normal should connect ip 203.208.43.94.
Why can’t it finally display protected information like the previous version.

Since upgrading to the new version the Avast UI no longer opens / works. Clicking or double clicking on the Avast icon in the taskbar briefly “flashes” an empty (white) window.

I’ve tried uninstalling + re-installing and repairing, but the issue persisted.

The following entries appear in C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log\HtmlRemoteContent.log whenever I try to open the Avast UI:

I apologize for this. It has been caused by the fact that we haven’t released new version that long, that’s why program updates itself. It doesn’t update only when you have set it to Manual updates.

You will no longer get popups and offers to non-Avast products (currently just Google Chrome). If you would like get rid of offers to other Avast products then please uncheck the “Share app-usage data with Avast so we may offer you upgrades or our other products”. This setting is only in Premium Security.

I had the problem where Avast wasn’t active and the UI opened then immediately closed. Given my less than stellar experience over the last year with several uninstall/reinstall or repairs I have removed Avast and will longer use it.

very buggy release >:(

Details, would have been more helpful.
How could Avast possibly investigate anything based on this comment.

Does this new version 20 respect old settings that have been made in previous versions?
I note old settings are stated as not present in this new version.
I have not updated to v20 yet and would be reluctant if my settings are not rolled over into the latest verson.

Minor problem with the latest update:

I have many serial devices working fine before the update, after all stop working.

After many restart i find the specific driver of the pci card got blocked botched, or any other cause.

Reload the drivers of the card after a complete uninstall of the device(with the drivers), work until i restart the computer(choosing detect hardware changes in device manager make it work again untill restart)

yes, old settings are respected
