I’m experiencing problems after update the Avast Premium Security. After the reboot there is a red circle with a cross over and everytime i tried to open the avast i’m not able. As it open and imediatelly closed the window. I’ve already recboot the computer 3 times and without solution and having Avast working proprely.
Does anybody have a clue what is happening.
Problem solved by uninstalling the automatically update and making a clean instalattion. But after that there were some issues in loading my version of the software. But after 1 hour and half i’ve been able to have the Avast Premium Security working properly.
How do you switch Firewall Logging on now that the “Old Settings” link from the Troubleshooting page have been removed? That was the only way it could be done ever since the new user interface was released. The firewall logging functionality is still there - if I install 19.8.4793, enable logging of blocked packets using the Old Settings interface, and then upgrade to 20.1.5069 the Firewall Logs link on the Firewall page shows that logging is active. If I clean-install 20.1.5069 the Firewall Logs link shows empty and there seems no way to enable logging.
I can understand why you would want to retire the old interface but why can you not add the functionality to the new one? Firewall logging is an essential element of good security.
Whilst I have yet to allow Avast to update, I was just wondering about the comment “Fewer popups” whilst this is somewhat out of context, but what about the frequency and spammie/misleading ads in Avast Free.
I tire of getting ads which are basically Avast Looking over my shoulder to try and sell me something. For me these kind of sales tactics have a negative effect as I would never buy anything (not just Avast) represented in this way. It would be tantamount to responding to a spam email and making a purchase.
I’m puzzled: my Windows 10 system running Avast free seems to have updated to 20.1 despite my setting the update option in 19.8 as “Ask when an update is available”. Even stranger, I didn’t notice it doing the update; I think it must have been picked up when I rebooted for other reasons. Well, I was going to update anyhow…
Later: Oh dear. Less happy now. Avast tried to update itself on a laptop as well but failed - maybe the laptop was turned off at the wrong moment - and I had to completely uninstall (using Avast Clear) and reinstall. Same “Ask when an update is available” setting as above on the 19.8 version on the laptop.
The point is that if Avast does its own thing in its own time users are not aware and problems like this happen.
Same here with W10 (no with 2 other W7)
Also, when I clicked on avast and the window closed immediately, my computer restarted. >:(
I was finally able to solve the problem (it seems to me) by manually starting the “Avast” service in the windows services (it wasn’t started) .

I’m not happy that I don’t have the “old settings” either.
There was the notion of friends in the firewall, update settings , software updater reset,…, that we don’t even find in the “GEEK:AREA” menu.
Just for note, database reset for software updater is available in the geek:area. Some other settings (ex. log all blocked packets) are also available there.
No Auto Update here, but I have Program Updates set to Manual. Plus I didn’t even let it update to 19.9, so that is what it is currently complaining about, not 20.1.
Yet another looking over my shoulder spammie ad in the UI.
If you have a couple of times and the issue doesn’t go away you could try a ‘Repair’ of your avast installation.
In the UI> Go to Menu- Settings-Troubleshooting- Scroll and click “Repair App”
Avast updated on my computer even though I have it set to just notify me of updates. Also the 3rd party data sharing options have been ticked again after this update even though they weren’t before. This has happened many times now and with all the data sharing problems with Avast the last month they really aren’t doing themselves any favours.
Old settings was removed, so how can i now delete test history?
Share app-usage data with Avast so we may offer you 3rd party products means if i untick it I no longer get ad popups?
Good think about this release is Avast signature in email client is disabled by default. Also will be nice if PUP detection will be ASK as default not disabled. Anyway if i compare one year old 19.1 with current 20.1 nothing noticeable changed, new version usually fix bugs from previous version while new version causes new bugs and so on. Neverending story. At least new version after 5 month is ok. I never understand why was new version released each month without deep testing.
