Anybody,
After the update of MS Office XP to 2003 I have a very annoying problem. When Outlook preview pane is open or the quick view is active and I receive a new mail the little serene light and the clock in the desktop taskbar pops up and takes about 3 minutes to scan a new simple email. My PC stalls and only reacts after the scan has been finished.
You mean that happens when you receive an infected e-mail?
What are your settings of the resident providers? Do you have the option “Show detailed info on performed action” turned on?
What operating system do you have, btw?
Windows XP sp1a En, Office 2003 on a P4 2.8 and 1Gb dual mem.
No, any new mail that is viewed in the preview pane. When the mail already was opened (scanned) there is no delay. Only in the preview and the auto example mode. And only with new mails.
The reinstall didn’t help.
About the option, I don’t know right now, can’t check that now.
But at least it’s now clear why it doesn’t work.
Will you be sticking around during the weekend? This will require some work from our side… I’ll keep you informed.
OK… I have a question.
Are all of the event log messages exactly the same?
I mean, it’s likely they’ll all have the same code - but is the text always the same?
I.e. is it always
DriverScanListenThread: avworkInitialize failed
??
This error is bad - but it turns out it shouldn’t actually be fatal…
After a reinstall, a boot scan including a virus removal, a setup of the Outlook XP version and a repair of the outlook 2003, a removal of the Xp version and again a repair of the Office 2003 it works fine again. ??? ???
At least it looks like it works fine again. Don’t know offcourse what happend. When it works good and it removed the first incomming virus succesfully, which will come in no time, I’m a happy person. ;D
Hmm, that’s typical – I’m left without knowing anything… :-\
Anyway thanks a bunch for sharing - I got some tips on what may’ve caused the problem actually – and I’ll try to add some more logging to the upcoming update so that if the problem reappers, we’ll know more…
In this case, I’d like to ask you something. Please install the pre-release of the next program update. It contains some changes and I’d like to know if they solve your problem (there is a fair chance they will).
