Just installed latest free version. Runing MS Outlook Exppress.
I receive emails from one email address with attachments like ATT54636.DAT which I know are okay and need. The new version of Avast is showing them as “[avast! heuristic - WARNING]” and no contents.
Is there any way I can setup Avast to allow these email to come through okay.
Or am I set by the limitations of MS Outlook Express - I know is not the best
The safest work around is to have the sender zip the file with a password and then send it to you. If this is not an option uncheck the “attachment check” setting in mail shield/expert settings/mail heuristics. Another possibly better option would be to lower the heuristic sensitivity and see if the file get though.
Once you get the file you may have a problem with Avast wanting to quarantine the file anyway. If this happens you should be able to work around the problem in a similar way. In the end you may want to get in contact with ALWIL. BTW can you say what the files are for and what they contain?
The mail is from a form I have on a web site and is automated. I am trying to see if I can alter the format of the incoming email but no luck yet!
I have altered the level of mail checking but only turning off seams to help. When turned on, AVAST will delete all details of the email and I can’t even find it in the chest! All logs then show no record of it.
As for the contents of the attachment, I dont know, it is a .DAT file? - and anyway it is of no use to me as all the form info is contained within the body of the email.
Let’s see: Avast tries to move that to the chest. This seems to fail. After that is not successful, Avast will delete it, because of the settings.
Set MailShield as in screenshot: avast should then prompt you and ask, what to do with the mail.
(Set that also on the remaining 2 tabs: PUP and SUSPICIOUS)
